Spain: the classic winter-sun coast
Spain is Europe's favourite snowbird base. The Costa del Sol (Málaga, Marbella, Fuengirola) has 300+ days of sun a year, while Tenerife in the Canary Islands has the mildest winter in all of Europe — spring-like almost every day.
Portugal: value and mild winters
The Algarve pairs golden cliffs and whitewashed towns with some of the friendliest prices in Western Europe, and Air Canada flies nonstop to Lisbon and Porto from Eastern Canada.
Cuba: the easiest escape

The one rule to know: how long can you stay?
For Europe (Spain and Portugal), Canadians can stay in the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period — enough for a three-month winter. For longer, you apply for that country's national long-stay visa. Cuba's tourist card allows up to 90 days (usually extendable), and Mexico's permit has historically allowed up to 180.
