When is Hajj?
Hajj takes place once a year on fixed dates in the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. In 2027 it is expected to fall around May 2027, with exact dates confirmed by the lunar calendar. Because the dates are fixed and places are limited, preparation starts many months — often close to a year — ahead.
How the official Hajj process works
Hajj is regulated by Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims from Canada book through approved Hajj operators, and Hajj visas and packages are arranged through the official Saudi Nusuk Hajj platform and its authorised agents, not as ordinary tourist visas. What to prepare
- Start early. Places are limited and demand is high — begin planning close to a year ahead.
- Passport & documents. Ensure your passport has plenty of validity; approved operators advise on the required documents.
- Health & vaccinations. Certain vaccinations (such as meningitis) are required for Hajj; check current requirements with your doctor and the operator.
- Physical readiness. Hajj involves a lot of walking in heat — building up your fitness beforehand helps enormously.
- Learn the rites. Attend a Hajj seminar at your local mosque and study the manasik so you arrive prepared.
- Budget. Hajj is a significant investment covering the program, flights, accommodation in Mina, Arafat and Makkah, and transport.
