How to Choose a Hajj Package from Canada
By Fond Travels · Updated October 4, 2026
Assalamu Alaikum. Hajj is the journey of a lifetime, and for most Canadian Muslims it is also the single biggest trip they will ever book — so the package you choose really matters. The tricky part is that two packages at very different prices can look almost the same on paper. This guide walks you through exactly what to compare, so you can choose with confidence and focus on your worship, not the logistics. Our team helps you book from any Canadian city, in Canadian Dollars.
1. Mina tent location — the most important factor
You will spend the five days of Hajj (8–12 Dhul Hijjah) in the tent city of Mina, and this is where packages differ the most. During those days you walk to the Jamarat several times in the heat, so how close your camp is to the Jamarat is the single biggest comfort factor. Camps are organized into zones and categories — a closer zone and a higher category mean a shorter, easier walk. Always ask a package exactly which Mina zone and category it uses, not just that it includes Mina.
2. Your tent and facilities
Tents are shared, but comfort varies a lot. Ask about:
- Air conditioning — Hajj often falls in intense heat; an A/C, carpeted tent makes a real difference.
- How many people per tent — the fewer sharing, the more space and rest.
- Washrooms — shared public facilities versus private bathrooms dedicated to your group.
- Meals — full-board (all meals) in Mina and Arafat is standard on good packages; confirm it is included.
3. Transport during the Hajj days
Moving between Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah is part of every Hajj. Ask whether your package uses shared buses or private/VIP buses for your group, and whether they are modern and have onboard facilities. This affects how much time you spend waiting in the heat.
4. Hotels in Makkah and Madinah — you are paying for distance
Outside the Hajj days you stay in hotels in Makkah and Madinah, and this is the other big price lever. What you are really paying for is distance to the Haram. Ask for the hotel name and its walking distance to the Masjid al-Haram (Makkah) and the Prophet’s Mosque (Madinah) — a hotel “near the Haram” can mean a 2-minute walk or a 20-minute one. Star rating matters, but distance matters more, especially for elderly pilgrims.
5. Makkah-first or Madinah-first?
Most packages run one of two ways: fly into Madinah first and finish in Makkah, or the reverse. Both are valid — it often comes down to flight routing and dates. We help you pick the itinerary that flies most smoothly from your Canadian city.
6. Trip length
Hajj packages range from around 9 days to 3 weeks. Shorter trips cost more (less hotel time, tighter flight windows) and suit people with limited time off; longer trips are better value and give more time in the two holy cities. Decide how much time you can take before you compare prices.
7. Occupancy — the price lever you control
Hotel and package prices are quoted per person based on how many share a room: quad (4), triple (3) or double (2). Quad sharing is the most affordable; a double is the most comfortable and costs the most. Choosing your occupancy is the easiest way to set your budget.
8. What’s included — the checklist
Packages advertise a “starting price,” so always check what is and isn’t in it:
- Flights from Canada — often not included in the headline price; confirm, or ask us to add them from your city.
- Hajj visa and permit — arranged through the official process.
- All transfers — airport, hotels and the Hajj days.
- Qurbani / Dam (the sacrifice) — confirm it is included.
- Meals — which cities and how many per day.
- Ziyarat (guided visits to the historic sites) and the Haramain high-speed train between the cities.
9. Booking from Canada — book early
Hajj places are limited and allocated through official channels well ahead of the season, so the best packages, hotels and fares sell out early — book as far in advance as you can. From Canada, also think about flights from your city, a group leader or Canadian support you can reach, and whether you want a guided group or a more independent trip. We handle all of it for travellers from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa and beyond.
10. How the package “tiers” work
You’ll see tiers like Essential, Standard and Premium (every operator names them differently). The key thing to understand: the Hajj rituals and the Mina experience are usually the same across tiers — what changes is the hotels, the comfort level and the trip length. So pick your tier by the hotels and comfort you want, then your occupancy to fit your budget.
