Best Time to Visit Europe from Canada
By Fond Travels · Updated September 22, 2026
Europe is wonderful year-round, but when you go changes everything — the weather, the crowds, the price of flights from Canada, and what's happening. Here's a month-by-month guide to help you pick the right window, with the whole trip arranged in Canadian Dollars.
Spring (April–June): the sweet spot
Widely the best all-round time to visit Europe — mild weather, gardens and countryside in bloom, long days and lighter crowds than summer. Ideal for the cities, Italy, Spain, France and the Greek Islands before peak heat. Flights from Canada are moderate and rise toward June.
Summer (July–August): peak season
The warmest, busiest and most expensive time, with the highest airfares from Canada. Best for the beaches and islands — the Greek Islands, the Mediterranean, Croatia — and for Scandinavia and Iceland, which are at their mildest. Book early for summer; it sells out.
Autumn (September–October): the other sweet spot
Our top pick alongside spring — warm seas lingering into September, harvest and wine season, beautiful light, thinning crowds and falling prices. Superb for the Mediterranean, Portugal, Italy and the cities.
Winter (November–March): cities, markets & snow
The cheapest time for flights and city breaks, and magical for Christmas markets, the Swiss Alps ski season, and Iceland's Northern Lights. Southern Europe is quiet and mild; the Canary Islands stay warm all winter.
Quick picks
- Best overall weather & value: May–June and September–October.
- Beaches & islands: June–September.
- Cheapest flights from Canada: November–March (excluding the holidays).
- Fewest crowds: shoulder season and winter.
